In memory of my loving uncle, best friend and greatest mentor. You are irreplaceable...
Ambuehl, Arnold Eugene (65) 05/06/1943 - 02/26/2009
"Arnie," as he was known to his friends and family, passed away peacefully in the loving company of his daughter, son-in-law, and sister. Arnie was the fifth of six children born to Jerome and Marvel Ambuehl in Moorhead, Minn. He was later raised in Portland, eventually settling in Lake Oswego for the past 40 years. Arnie enjoyed his retirement after a long career with the Portland Public School District.
Arnie is the beloved father of Marvin Ambuehl and Ana Wagstaff. He will forever be remembered by his brothers, Ellsworth "Dede" and Robert Ambuehl; and adoring sisters, Sharon Heinrichs and Patricia Ambuehl. He leaves loving nephews, Jeff Heinrichs, Mike and Steve Ambuehl; treasured nieces, Shelly Ambuehl, Heidi McIsaac and Sherry Bybee; and caring in-laws, John Wagstaff, Sonya Ambuehl, Joyce Ambuehl, John McIsaac, Jeff Hudson, and Vivian Heinrichs; along with his beloved cats, Hanzie and Lutzie; and countless friends and neighbors who were blessed to have known him. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Ambuehl; and sister-in-law, Brenda Ambuehl.
Always a restless and eccentric adventurer, Arnie had several passionate interests including dune bugging, sailing, snow skiing, biking and most recently a new found love of travel that embraced his spirit and opened his mind. Arnie was a dedicated advocate for creatures without voices and assisted to improve the quality of life for feral cats as well as a local endangered eagle population, even receiving an invitation to meet with the city mayor to modify construction to protect the eagles and having his photos of the eagles published in a local magazine.
Arnie touched the lives of everyone he met regardless of language, with his gregarious and generous personality and his abundant trademark sense of humor and laughter that he carried with him to his final days on this earth.
Friends and family are invited to attend his memorial service at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2009, in Riverview Abbey, 0319 S.W. Taylor's Ferry Rd., Portland, OR 97219. His family requests that memorial donations in his honor be shared with the American Cancer Society, the Oregon Kidney Association and/or the Oregon Humane Society to continue his legacy of protection.
